Major Farm Expansion Programme by Poultry Processing Company
Business Challenge
The client, a major European poultry processing company, wished to expand its operations, without disrupting or distracting from the operational and market priorities of the company.
As a result, we were involved from the site planning to the turnkey stages of the project.
Our Approach
We adopted a risk-based project plan, to ensure that the project was completed in accordance with the specification, on-time and within budget. This included:
- Drafting development plan and budgets
- Sourcing suitable sites and suppliers
- Negotiating and completing supplier contracts
- Design of the most appropriate units and site layout plan in line with customer, regulatory, veterinary and logistical requirements
- Construction of 15 stand-alone green-field breeder units for the supply farms
- Construction of 30 stand-alone green-field broiler finisher farms
- Sourcing and fit-out of latest ventilation, feeding, drinking and nesting systems appropriate to local climatic conditions and performance criteria
- Development and implementation of international code of standards programme.
Benefits & Value
The development plan was successfully implemented on time and within agreed budgets.
We adopted a risk-based project plan, to ensure that the project was completed in accordance with the specification, on-time and within budget.
The benefit of our risk-based approach was that it enabled us to identify possible and probable requirement changes; factors that could disrupt the project; and any possible cost over-runs. The client was then able to put an economic value on these factors and make critical project decisions accordingly.
