Farm Review

Business Challenge

The client was a commercial dairy and livestock farmer based in the midlands of Ireland. The farmer’s goal was to devise an appropriate off-farm investment strategy to be funded from Single Farm Payment (SFP) cash-flow. He also wished to streamline his current farming operation to ensure that money from the SFP wasn’t used to subsidise his food production operations.

Our Approach

Farrelly & Mitchell examined his financial situation in detail. We then organised meetings with key family members to look at the life and career goals of everybody involved in the operation. Farrelly & Mitchell then formulated a farm business review and negotiated its acceptance by all key family members.

Benefits & Value

The farm business review identified:

  • Appropriate investments for the farmer, which would allow him to reach his retirement goals.
  • An appropriate settlement for the farmer’s brothers, who had peripheral involvement on the farm.
  • An exit from sheep farming, cutting down on livestock farming and a plan for expanding the dairy operation.
